About the Speaker…
I am creating the next generation of Urban Forestry. With the understanding that intentional planting of the right species can create a commodity in Urban Forest rather than a waste product. With a 15+ year background in the supply chain of commercially forested lumber and wood products I see a vision to the future of 10 billion inhabitants and the need to pay more attention to the local resource at hand, regardless where that might be.

Title: Treecycle America, Certified Urban Forestry
Description: We throw away 50 million lbs of tree debris in Charlotte NC alone each year. This is very underutilized and TCA plans to change that. Our goal is to educate and change where a commodity comes from and how far it comes. We have the potential to have value in our trees, after their living usefulness is done.
What do you want people to learn from your talk? I want everyone to know that natural resources in all forms are not disposable.
What do you want people to do from your talk? I want everyone to feel the “switch” inside of them that is the connectedness to all that is. The natural world needs us to be a part of it, not just harvest it.

Where is your hometown? Arlington, TX
What are your hobbies? I feel like my hobby in the last few years has been understanding how to better utilize wood. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. Next would be finding a treasure inside a tree that had no purpose before I claimed it.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about being a great father, husband and friend. I am also highly passionate about doing the best with my existence on this planet as I can.
What draws you to Charlotte? Charlotte for me has a great diverse culture. But I must say, the TREE CANOPY is one of the most amazing things we have.
What is the best compliment you’ve received? I feel that I am told I communicate my passion well. I like to hear that, it makes me feel like I am in the right place with my mission. I am told that I am passionate for my career in the pursuit of changing the way we use our Urban Forest.
What do you want to be remembered for? I want to be remembered for being a part, start, kickstart at some capacity of redefining Urban Forestry and helping to integrate that forest with the wood industry.
How do you push the boundaries? Every day I push against the inertia of the NORM of business and I come up with ways to get around it and make small changes.
Where do you see Charlotte in 5 years? As an early adopter of a “makes sense” approach to lessen the waste of trees and created GDP from that waste stream.
