Hayden “Haydini” Childress is an award-winning magician based out of Charlotte. At the age of 24, he has performed on tv networks such as FOX and CNBC and for organizations such as Bosch, Emory University, and BB&T. His show features unique magic, comedy, and mentalism with an emphasis on interactivity. You’ve seen rabbits pulled out of hats, now see hats pulled out of rabbits!

Title: The Magic of Interactivity
Description: More people today are spending a higher percentage of their income/time on entertainment, yet some forms of entertainment have thrived while others have declined. This is a look at a form of interactive entertainment, magic, and how it other art/entertainment forms can adapt to the changing world of entertainment.
What do you want people to learn from your talk? The differences between observing something happening and experiencing it, and where the future of entertainment is heading.
What action items do you want people to take away from your talk? I hope people who are hosting events or are in a related field can improve their user’s experiences.

Where is your hometown? Charlotte
What are your hobbies? Magic, hiking, traveling, fitness, concerts, hanging out with my friends!
What are you passionate about? Magic/Entertainment, entrepreneurship, adventure, technology, life in general!
What is the best compliment you’ve received? From a magic show “I hate magic and magic shows but you made me really like it”. That was really nice.
What do you want to be remembered for? Being a fun, friendly person that people enjoyed being around :).
How do you push the boundaries? I take really bold leaps professionally, such as hosting shows in new cities without having a well-known name to back myself up and by doing my own style of magic.
What does your happy place look like? It’s 55 degrees out, in the mountains, there are lots of people out at a festival having free beer and food and kayaking and we are all at a large picnic table sharing stories and hanging out.
What is one thing that you’d like to share that is not commonly known about you? Goats scare me.

 

Thoughts on Charlotte

What part of town do you live in? Plaza Midwood
What draws you to Charlotte? I grew up here, but came back because it is bustling, growing, and doing well economically! There are lots to do and it’s not expensive to live in (compared to somewhere like New York).
Where do you see Charlotte in 5 years? With a higher population, a larger art scene, and a happening place to be in line with Atlanta, Boston, and other large cities! (maybe more than 5 years).
