Title: How to interview and find a Rockstar

Description: Anyone who has ever had to hire anyone does it their own way. This lack of consistency breeds bad results which costs companies time and money. This talk is meant to inform everyone that using the Experienced based interview model is the best way to increase the bottom line and find the best talent.

What do you want people to learn from your talk? The way in which managers interview talent today is broken. The current system is too dependent on personality characteristics and unmeasurable traits. Using the Experience method will create better hires and better company results.

What action items do you want people to take away from your talk? 1) Understand that their current method of interviewing is outdated and needs to be replaced. 2) That there is a better way to identify in the interview process high caliber talent. 3) That this method can be done, but it will take a time investment and that they need to start immediately.

Where is your hometown? Charlotte

What are your hobbies? Running, reading, spending time with my family and watching pro wrestling!

What are you passionate about? With two 17-month-old twins I am passionate about sleep when I can get it.

What draws you to Charlotte? Charlotte is my home. My family is here and the city has grown so much over the past 20 years. I have been in a unique position to see the city grow, prosper, and face the challenges that come along with that.

What is the best compliment you’ve received? After about a month of having newborns, one of my coworkers said: “You don’t look as bad as I thought you would with twins”.

What do you want to be remembered for? I would like to be remembered for being a good husband, father, and someone who was a thought leader on the way in which talent is acquired and assessed.

How do you push the boundaries? I constantly push myself internally to not accept the status quo. Once I am close to reaching a goal I immediately set another one that is harder so that I am always pushing toward new boundaries.

What does your happy place look like? Home with my family

What is one thing that you would like to share that is unknown about you? I am very competitive. I think hyper-competitive would be a better way to put it.

Where do you see Charlotte in 5 years? Charlotte will continue to be a major city in the southeast. However, I see the city balancing out the businesses that call Charlotte home and leading in tech and even in the startup community. Charlotte has a very bright future ahead.
